We have received a record number, 3105 submissions this year to the Alexandre Trauner ART/Film Festival
Gergely Pohárnok, cameraman
Béla Bagota, director
We have advertised our call for application among the students of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts to design the logo, the mosaic word (ATAFF) and the poster of the festival.
I have participated in the exhibition called "The squares of light" and its partner programs in the year of 2000. There were a lot of professionals helping actively, young people and older - since then I do not remember such high volumen festival with great collaboration and big parties.
In 2018 the organizers decided to renew the festival's profile and name it after the great, Oscar winner, Hungarian production designer, Alexandre Trauner. Since then ATAFF has taken a more specific approach and as pioneers among all film festivals it has become the event to celebrate the underrated art of production design and its professionals.
One of the biggest achievements of the festival is creating and maintaining the dialog between film professionals, artists and scientists. The organizers are also proud of engaging the younger generations to participate. By having a good relationship with universities and co-operating closely with other festivals ATAFF helps the new generation of filmmakers to grow and shape their attitude towards filmmaking.
Szolnok has always been an important forum for film genres which does not have opportunity for appearance at any other place, especially since the termination of the Short Film Festival in Miskolc. For the animation film makers, whom could not participate in the Feature Film Festivals, the festival in Szolnok is the other big event for them besides the Animation Film Festival at Kecskemét.
The film festivals of Szolnok are very familiar, guest - and people centered events at a human scale. One of its most important task is to be open towards the youth.
Amazing place, good environment for filmmakers. I have not expected such good atmosphere. I'am so grateful for hospitality.
A wonderful festival, thank you for awarding Long Yearning. Excellent communication.
The film, Valan was a great adventure. Everything was determined by the winter and the mountain, the sets we were looking for and the ones built. When I was in the beginning of my career, Tamás Banovich - the legendary production designer - told me this is an ingrateful profession. "If you do something wrong everyone will see it; if you do your job well they will ask : What was the set design in this film?" He was right. Of course I was very happy to receive the Trauner award and even more grateful that this festival focuses on the work of production designers.
Alexandre Trauner, French painter, graphic artist, costume designer and Oscar winning set designer of Hungarian descent.
